EAST LONDON- Walter Sisulu University(WSU) Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology hosted its Monday afternoon hosted its State of Faculty Address 2025 an event dedicated to reflecting on the facultyโs achievements, challenges, and future plans.
The Higher Institution Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rushiella Nolundi Songca, officially opened the session setting the tone for strategic discussions on advancing academic excellence, innovation and industry partnerships. The event brought together faculty leadership, staff, private stakeholders and student leadership, fostering collaboration in shaping the future of the faculty.
Professor Songca in her address had this to say, โWe would like this faculty to be a faculty of ideas and innovation,โ she emphasised.
In addition Songca highlighted WSUโs commitment to fostering groundbreaking research and technological advancements.In addition she further acknowledged the facultyโs growing network of industry partners and benefactors who are committed to supporting student development.
“It is very important of nurturing these relationships, stakeholders must work together in empowering future engineers and innovators,” Professor Songca.
Furthermore Songca also took a moment to commend the SRC leadership at Buffalo City Campus (BCC), recognising their role in maintaining a stable and conducive learning environment. โI need to publicly congratulate the SRC leadership in BCC, it used to be a hub for student protests but in the past two years, it has been quiet. This is a testament to strong leadership. Please, my children, continue to protect your environment,โ she said.
The State of Faculty Address reaffirmed WSUโs dedication to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and collaboration, ensuring that the Faculty of Engineering remains a hub of transformative ideas and technological advancement.
