MAKHANDA- The National Arts Festival(NAF) is thrilled to welcome two new appointments to its Board of Directors; Professor Siphiwo Mahala as Chairperson and Mr Keith Ngesi as a new board member. Both Makhanda natives bring deep-rooted connections to the community and a commitment to its cultural legacy.
Mr Ngesi on his appointment had this to say, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as a Board Member, the Festival has always been a beacon of creativity, cultural expression and community spirit values that resonate deeply with me.”
As a seasoned broadcaster and communications specialist, Ngesi’s appointment strengthens the Festival’s local leadership, joining other Makhanda residents on the board.
Prof Mahala, a prolific author and playwright, takes the reins as Chair, succeeding Sikkie Kajee. “I look forward to shaping new pathways with the Festival team,we aim to see the Festival thrive for another fifty years, offering dynamic arts programs, creative platforms and economic development for Makhanda and the Eastern Cape,” said Mahala.
Furthermore NAF Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Monica Newton congratulated the new board members, highlighting their valuable insight and perspective. “Together, we look forward to working alongside the new Chair and board as we prepare for the 2025 edition.”
The 2025 National Arts Festival will take place in Makhanda from June 26 to July 6.
