KUGOMPO CITY- KuGompo City (formerly known as East East London) vocalists will, for the first time have an opportunity to audition for international stage roles at Hong Kong Disneyland when the entertainment giant hosts auditions in the city next month.
The auditions, scheduled for 13th June at the Alexander Playhouse, form part of the company’s ongoing search for African talent for its internationally acclaimed Festival of the Lion King production.
For several years, audition teams from Hong Kong Disneyland have travelled to South Africa to recruit performers for the show, with auditions traditionally taking place in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

This year marks the first time the Eastern Cape has been included in the talent search.
Organisers said the move would open doors for aspiring performers from the province to access opportunities on an international stage.
Furthermore, the auditions are aimed at vocalists who can perform four lead roles in the production Simba, Nala, Scar and the Storyteller.
Pre-registration for the open auditions is compulsory and has already opened online.
Applicants who complete the registration process will receive further audition details and briefing information via email.
In addition the first round of auditions will take place at 10am on Saturday, 13 June at the Alexander Playhouse in KuGompo City. Successful candidates will then be invited to callback auditions scheduled for 08 July.
Organisers said shortlisted performers would need to attend the callback session in person. Successful applicants will be offered an initial six-month contract beginning in October 2026, with opportunities to re-audition for extended contracts thereafter.
The Festival of the Lion King is one of Hong Kong Disneyland’s flagship productions and features live vocals, elaborate costumes, puppetry and music inspired by Disney’s globally celebrated Lion King franchise.
Set in the “Theater in the Wild”, the 30-minute production includes popular songs such as Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Be Prepared.
The show combines African-inspired music and storytelling with large-scale theatrical staging designed for international audiences.
Organisers encouraged Eastern Cape singers to seize what they described as a rare opportunity to showcase local talent on a world stage.
