EAST LONDON– Veteran Eastern Cape broadcaster Thobeka Buswana has made a return to radio after a seven-year break, joining The Voice Lounge as station manager from 01 November 2025.
The appointment marks Buswana’s comeback following a contested Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration(CCMA) case that kept her away from the airwaves. The Voice Lounge based in East London, serves as a growing media hub with an online radio station, podcast studio and professional recording space.

Buswana was head-hunted for the position after several years working on national media projects and completing a five-year term with the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA). At NEMISA, she helped expand training for community broadcasters and promoted the shift toward digital broadcasting.
“Once the radio bug hits you, it stays with you. The Voice Lounge gives me the chance to return to what I love. Its mix of audio and video is the future of broadcasting,” Buswana said.
Recruitment officials praised her leadership and experience at TRU FM, saying her governance background will strengthen the station’s brand and creative culture. “She has built accountable brands and created spaces where creatives can thrive,” the recruitment office said.

Looking ahead, Buswana said her focus will be on innovation and audience connection. “The future of digital radio is about experimenting and always putting the listener first,” she said.
Her appointment positions The Voice Lounge as a forward-thinking player in the Eastern Cape media scene, blending radio, podcasting and video content for a wider, digital-first audience.
