DUTYWA- A 24-year-old speech-language therapist from Dutywa, Qhawekazi Mazaleni has made the Eastern Cape proud by being crowned Miss South Africa 2025. The glittering ceremony took place at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday, 25 October where Mazaleni outshone nine other finalists to claim the coveted national title.
However, her victory comes with an unexpected twist. Rumours suggest that this year’s Miss South Africa will not be competing at Miss Universe, marking a shift in the pageant’s traditional path toward international representation.Mazaleni’s triumph reflects her unwavering dedication to education, empowerment and community upliftment.
In an emotional post-crowning interview, she expressed gratitude to South Africans for their support, saying. “It doesn’t feel real. Thank you to South Africa for believing in me and having faith in me,” she said.

A proud alumna of Stellenbosch University, Mazaleni holds a degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Pretoria with a research focus on autism.
Her Miss South Africa platform champions inclusive education and tackling the root causes of unemployment, particularly among young people. “The most challenging part of this journey was maintaining focus on myself while supporting my fellow contestants,” she emphasized.

Beyond the pageant stage, Mazaleni has already made an impact in her community. She is the author of a children’s book in isiXhosa, written to promote literacy and cultural pride among young readers. Her personal motto centred on self-development and inspiring change continues to guide her mission.
In a message to young women across South Africa, she urged. “Dare to dream, know who you are and be relentless in pursuing your purpose.”
As Miss South Africa 2025, Mazaleni’s reign will focus on impact-driven initiatives, including youth empowerment, literacy advocacy and the promotion of cultural storytelling all deeply rooted in her Eastern Cape upbringing.
