Meet the voice behind ‘Cutting edge Makhanda edition’

MAKHANDA– Every town has its storytellers those who give voice to its people, struggles and triumphs. In Makhanda, that voice belongs to Siyo Unathi Hala a 22-year-old with a mic, a message and a mission to spotlight the soul of Makhanda.

Hailing from Zolani in Tantyi, Hala is a creative force on the rise. He is currently pursuing a qualification in Human Resources at East Cape Midlands College, while also managing a growing presence in the local media space.

From being a radio presenter and social media content creator to MCing events, Hala juggles multiple roles with a calm determination that belies his age. But it’s through his hit show, Cutting Edge Makhanda Edition that Hala is truly making his mark.

The show aims to uncover and amplify inspiring, untold stories from within the Makhanda community offering a platform for voices that often go unheard. “It’s not easy balancing school and keeping my fans up to date,” Hala admits. “But I’m determined to share the amazing stories of Makhanda through Cutting Edge Makhanda Edition.”

Driven by a passion for storytelling and a desire to uplift his community, Hala says the support of his audience is what fuels his work. “What gives me motivation to keep doing everything is knowing that I have people who support me,” he says.

His advice to other young people hoping to pursue their passions? Focus on your strengths and run with them. “Use your talents what you’re good at and make sure you excel in it. That’s how you make it in life.”

As he continues to grow both academically and professionally, Hala is proving that youth, when paired with purpose, can lead to powerful change.
