79 year old environmental advocate publishes debut novel

GQEBERHA- At the age of 79, Frank Collier a dedicated environmental advocate has achieved a lifelong dream by publishing his debut novel, ‘The Boys from Umgazana‘. This sweeping 18th-century adventure novel is based on historical events and landscapes that Collier has long protected and cherished.

Collier’s book which explores themes of friendship, survival and cultural encounters along the Eastern Cape coast is a testament to the power of following one’s dreams, regardless of age.

“It’s never too late to follow your dreams,” Collier reflected.

“This book has been in my heart for so long, I just needed the right moment to share it.”With the help of local editors and supporters, Collier self-published his novel, which has already received praise for its vivid storytelling and deep sense of place.

The book officially launched on 4th August 2025 and is now available in bookstores and online.Collier’s achievement serves as a reminder that ambition has no age limit. His dedication to conservation and storytelling has culminated in a remarkable literary debut, inspiring others to pursue their passions, no matter their age.
