EAST LONDON- The South African Navy in partnership with Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality(BCMM) and Transnet National Port Authority, is set to commemorate World Hydrography Day (WHD) in East London. This significant event recognizes the critical role of hydrography in safe navigation, maritime security and environmental protection.
The WHD celebrations will feature a range of activities including keynote addresses, ship tours and demonstrations showcasing hydrographic expertise and cutting-edge technology. The event will provide valuable insights into the importance of hydrography and the Navy’s contributions to this field.
The WHD celebrations will take place on 20-21June 2025, with the following events: 20th June 2025; Hydrography Lecture and Panel Discussion at Premier Hotel, 20th June; Book launch and Cocktail Function onboard SAS AMATOLA at the Port of East London.21 June; Right of Entry parade on Oxford Street, EL City Central, starting at 17:30.
The arrival of SA Navy vessels in East London on 18 June 2025, marks a commitment to advancing hydrographic research and fostering awareness of South Africa’s maritime landscape.
