GQEBERHA- Gqeberha is gearing up to host a highly anticipated test match between South Africa and Italy on Saturday, 12 July 2025 at the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The fixture is part of the Castle Lager Incoming Series 2025, marks a significant moment in the city’s resurgence as a premier sporting destination.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality(NMBM) officials have expressed their excitement stating that, “This is more than just a rugby match it is a celebration of sport, unity and our city’s re-emergence on the international stage.”

The event is expected to boost economic revival, tourism growth and social cohesion in the region. Stakeholders, including Eastern Province Rugby and the Mandela Bay Development Agency(MBDA), are working together to deliver a world-class international sporting experience.

Assurances have been made to ensure a safe, vibrant and memorable experience for all attendees.

The Municipality is reviewing its current management agreement with the MBDA, prioritizing good governance and long-term service sustainability. “Our priority is always the best interest of Nelson Mandela Bay and its residents,” Municipality emphasized.

Furthermore residents are encouraged to rally behind the event and showcase the city’s hospitality. With the eyes of the rugby world fixed on Gqeberha, the city is ready to welcome thousands of fans, players and visitors with open arms and warm Eastern Cape hospitality.
