KWABHACA- The Umzimvubu Local Municipality will this weekend stand in solidarity with grieving families and the Ngwetsheni community as they lay to rest two victims of a recent storm that struck the area.
The tragic incident, caused by strong winds on the afternoon of 05 April 2026, claimed the lives of 29-year-old Lihle Meyato and 35-year-old Qhamani Langa in Ngwetsheni Village, KwaBhaca.

Separate funeral services have been arranged to allow each family the dignity and space to honour their loved ones according to their traditions.
Qhamani Langa will be laid to rest on Friday, 17 April 2026 at 10:00, followed by Lihle Meyato on Saturday, 18 April 2026 at 10:00.
Umzimvubu Local Municipality Mayor Cllr. Zukiswa Ndevu, expressed heartfelt condolences and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting affected families.“The Municipality remains steadfast in its solidarity with all affected families during this difficult time. Continuous collective efforts are underway to provide meaningful support, ensuring that no victim or affected household is left without aid, care or guidance throughout the recovery process,” said Ndevu.

Furthermore, the municipality has also acknowledged the role played by local churches and community structures, which have organised prayer sessions throughout the week in a show of unity and compassion.
Residents have been urged to continue supporting the bereaved families as the spirit of ubuntu remains evident across the community during this period of mourning.
The recent storms have left a deep impact on the area, prompting ongoing recovery efforts by local authorities to assist those affected.
