Local Municipality reshuffles Executive to boost service delivery

MATATIELE– The Matatiele Local Municipality has approved a major reshuffle of its Executive Committee and Section 79 Committees in a move aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating service delivery.

The decision was taken during a Special Council Sitting held on Tuesday, where councillors endorsed the reconfiguration of key leadership structures within the municipality.

The reshuffle comes in response to vacancies in critical portfolios, prompting council to appoint several councillors to strategic positions.

Former Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Chairperson, Cllr Susan Mokhesi has been appointed as Portfolio Head for Economic Development and Planning. Former Mayor, Cllr Sonwabile Mngenela, will now serve as Portfolio Head for Budget and Treasury.

In addition, Ward 17 Councillor Cllr Sindile Mbulawa, has been named Chairperson of the Public Participation and Petitions Committee while Ward 23 Councillor, Cllr Sicelo Maphasa takes over as Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).

Council also resolved to extend the contract of Acting Municipal Manager, Mrs Nokhanyo Zembe, for a further three months. The extension is intended to ensure continuity while recruitment processes for a permanent Municipal Manager are finalised.

Mayor Cllr Patrick Stuurman said the changes demonstrate the municipality’s commitment to improving governance standards.

“These resolutions reaffirm our commitment to good governance, accountability and transparency while positioning the institution to accelerate service delivery to our communities,” he said.

The municipality believes the reconfigured leadership will enhance oversight, improve financial management, and fast-track development initiatives across Matatiele.
