O.R. TAMBO SETS ITS SIGHTS ON A CLEAN AUDIT

The O.R. Tambo District Municipality(ORTDM) has begun the 2026/27 financial year with a renewed commitment to institutional excellence, accountability and good governance on the 13th of July 2026.

The Municipal Manager Basil Mase emphasised that the municipality must be deliberate in addressing the areas consistently raised by the Auditor-General and Internal Audit.

He called on all departments to work collectively to end recurring findings, strengthen internal controls, improve compliance and enhance organisational performance.

Importantly he said, “These identified areas would become a standing item in management engagements throughout the year, ensuring that progress is continuously checked and that corrective actions are implemented without delay. Also as a reminder management that O.R. Tambo’s progress has not happened by chance.”

When asked about the progress and the challenges they faced he said, “Our progress is the result of discipline, accountability and hard work. The same commitment that brought us this far must now take us to the next level.”

The meeting reflected a shared understanding that a Clean Audit is more than an audit outcome. It reflects strong systems, responsible leadership, sound financial management and an institution that can deliver sustainable services to its communities.

As the municipality advances towards a new administration the focus remains on building a stronger institution, improving service delivery and deepening public confidence in local government.

The message from management was clear: ORTDM is not content with maintaining progress.

The municipality is determined to transform progress into excellence and into a lasting legacy for the people of O.R. Tambo.
