Outrage swept through Mvalweni village in Ward 26, Alfred Nzo District Municipality on Monday as leaders launched a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide(GBV-F) campaign following a string of abuse cases.

The area has been flagged as a GBVF hotspot, with more than 10 cases reported in recent months. The latest incident involves a 13-year-old girl allegedly raped by her biological father.

The suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody.

Cllr Nkomo Khwela condemned the violence and urged residents to report abuse. “We are deeply outraged by what allegedly happened to the 13-year-old child. This is horrific and unacceptable,” Khwela said.

Municipal Speaker Cllr Sixolile Mehlomakhulu said the abuse betrayed constitutional values.

“We cannot stand by while our children and women live in fear. Council will work with law enforcement and traditional leaders to ensure perpetrators face the law. Enough is enough,” he said.

In addition the municipality visited the victim’s family and donated school uniform items. Officials pledged to intensify awareness campaigns and partnerships with SAPS to protect women and children across the district.
