MATATIELE- A young farmer from Matatiele is steadily building a name for himself through hard work and commitment to agriculture.
Andile Ndzunga is known among local farmers for his strong work ethic and humble nature.

The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture recently visited his farm, where they saw firsthand the progress he has made.
Ndzunga was born and raised on his father’s farm, where his love for agriculture began. He later studied Agricultural Management at UNISA to build his knowledge and improve his farming business.

Today, he plants 500 hectares of maize. His target is 7 tonnes per hectare but in good seasons he has reached up to 8 tonnes.
His farm is also helping the local community by creating jobs, with 10 permanent workers and 20 seasonal employees.
Furthmore, Ndzunga is also passionate about helping young people gain experience. This year, he is hosting three students from Ingwe TVET College and one intern from the Department of Agriculture for in-service training.

He emphasised that farming is not easy, but it is worth it.
“This land still has a future and that future is the youth. Young people must look for opportunities and stay committed. With hard work, everything is possible,” he said.

In addition the Department of Agriculture has supported his work by investing in fencing covering 15 kilometres, funding maize production on 150 hectares over three years and building a storage shed on the farm.
Ndzunga believes farming is a long-term investment. His journey shows how dedication and support can help young farmers grow and succeed. His story is one of many showing that agriculture continues to play an important role in the Eastern Cape.
