Nasizo Mndende’s journey from bullying to empowerment

ELLIOTDALE- At the age of 31, Nasizo Mndende is redefining her narrative from a young girl once mocked for her appearance to a social worker, founder of Inkciyo South Africa and now a published author determined to inspire healing and self-worth.

Growing up in Elliotdale, Mndende endured bullying that left lasting emotional scars. She recalls being labelled ‘Mbishe‘ a nickname rooted in how others perceived her beauty.

Yet even in those painful moments, she held firmly onto her dreams.

“Even though people saw me in that way, I never stopped dreaming, I kept telling myself that one day I will amount to something,” she said.

That belief became the foundation of her resilience, despite facing various personal challenges over the years. Mndende remained focused on building a meaningful life, one that would not only make her family proud but also positively impact others.

“I have had my fair share of challenges but I have always risen because I wanted to build a name for myself and make a difference,” she reflects.

Now a qualified social worker and community leader, Mndende has dedicated much of her life to supporting others through hardship. Her lived experiences have shaped her passion for helping individuals, particularly young people, navigate issues of identity, confidence and belonging.

In addition she recognises that many continue to face the same struggles she once endured.

“I understand there are still people going through what I went through, I want to be part of their journey,” She says.

Marking her 31st milestone, Mndende has taken a bold step into authorship, penning a book aimed at restoring confidence and encouraging self-acceptance among readers. The book explores themes of personal growth and identity, offering guidance to those who may feel lost or undervalued.

“This book is about growth and self-acceptance, especially for those trying to find themselves. It’s not just inspiring it’s a mirror reflecting resilience and individuality,” She explains.

Through her writing, she tackles a wide range of issues including cyberbullying, childhood trauma, family values, personal integrity and the importance of self-worth. Her message is clear: embracing one’s true self is both a challenge and a necessity.

Mndende also hopes the book will foster stronger connections within families, creating space for honest conversations between parents and children.

“It’s a readable book that can create a bond between parents and children. Older youth and parents will both relate to it,” she emphasized.

Her journey from being defined by a hurtful nickname to becoming a voice of empowerment stands as a testament to perseverance and inner strength.

Today, Mndende is not only rewriting her own story but helping others find the courage to do the same.

Furthmore, for her success is measured not just by achievements but by the lives she touches along the way.

“I want my story to remind people that they are enough and that they can rise above any challenge,” Mndende.
