WSU convocation elects Dr. Lunga Mantashe for second term as President

MTHATHA- The Walter Sisulu University(WSU) Convocation has overwhelmingly re-elected Dr. Lunga Mantashe as its President for a second term, securing over 3,000 votes during 28th June 2025 Annual General Meeting at the Zamukulungisa Site in Mthatha Campus.

This decisive mandate reflects the trust and confidence of the alumni in Dr. Mantashe’s leadership and vision.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mantashe reaffirmed his commitment to principled, transparent and impactful leadership. “We will continue to be impartial, objective and robust. We make no friends and no enemies. This university matters to us, and we love it because we studied here. We will proceed with our project with more confidence and we have serious work ahead, including the clearance of student debt. We will be strong, vigorous and hold managers and other structures accountable,” he emphasized.

In addition Dr. Mantashe’s presidency has been marked by significant achievements, including:- Strengthening Convocation’s voice in university governance- Championing initiatives such as student debt relief and alumni engagement- Earning wide support among WSU graduates for his strong stance on accountability.

As WSU faces significant transformation demands, Dr. Mantashe’s leadership is expected to maintain the momentum established during his first term. With his re-election, the Convocation is poised to continue driving positive change and promoting the interests of WSU alumni.
