Paving the way for a digitally empowered Eastern Cape

EAST LONDON- The 18th Annual ICT Summit held at East London International Convention Centre(EL ICC) in East London, wrapped up on 21st November 2024 after a three-day extravaganza that kicked off with a golf tournament on 19th November. The consensus was clear that South Africa’s economic growth hinges on the convergence of public sector investment, private sector innovation and digital transformation.

Renowned fashion designer and founder of Maxhosa Afrika, Laduma Ngxokolo, made a notable appearance at the 18th Annual ICT Summit in East London, where he shared insights into the traditional systems of Amaxhosa that inspire his brand, “We are here at the ICT Summit to share the Amaxhosa systems that we use as a big brand, we hope to elevate our systems and take them to the next level. I have also learned about cybersecurity, as I am frequently targeted,” Ngxokolo said.

Chief Executive Officer of Khula Tech Solutions Khaya Tantsi, a Makhanda-based internet service provider emphasized the company’s mission to bring internet access to rural areas and townships while also providing high-quality fibre services. “We are an internet service provider based in Makhanda, focused on getting internet to our rural areas and townships and also providing ultimate fibre solutions. The summit has been eye-opening, showcasing the significant changes that have taken place over the past four years. Moving forward, we need to focus on innovation and commit to introducing AI in business,” Tantsi said.

Furthermore the ICT Summit welcomed an esteemed lineup of speakers including Assistant Editor of Investigations at The Herald publication Nomazima Nkosi, Nkosi a seasoned journalist renowned for her fearless reporting, brought her wealth of expertise and passion to the summit. During her address, she emphasized the crucial role journalists play in holding those in power accountable and giving a voice to the voiceless. “The ICT Summit has provided a valuable platform for us to explore the intersection of technology and journalism and I’m excited to share my insights on how innovation can be harnessed to drive impactful storytelling,” Nkosi said.

Additionally, the 18th Annual ICT Summit has come to a close but its impact is only just beginning. With its rich discussions insightful presentations and meaningful connections, the summit has set the stage for a brighter, more digitally empowered future for South Africa.
