BHISHO- The Eastern Cape government has taken another step towards strengthening its position in the global maritime economy following a strategic engagement with international shipping leaders at the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping in Greece.
The engagement formed part of the province’s ongoing trade and investment programme in Greece and brought together key stakeholders from the international shipping industry to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation and commercial partnerships.

In a statement issued by Eastern Cape Office of the Premier emphasised that, “Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration within the global shipping sector, with particular emphasis on investment opportunities, business-to-business partnerships and joint ventures that could contribute to the growth of the Eastern Cape’s oceans economy.”
Provincial representatives used the platform to showcase the Eastern Cape’s strategic coastal location, world-class port infrastructure and its growing potential as a maritime investment destination.
The province highlighted its position along major international shipping routes, which continues to present opportunities for increased trade, logistics development and maritime services.

Furthmore, the engagement also revealed strong interest among international stakeholders in deepening commercial ties with the Eastern Cape and exploring avenues for future collaboration.
Officials said such engagements are critical to advancing the province’s broader economic development agenda by attracting foreign direct investment, expanding the maritime sector and creating sustainable employment opportunities for local communities.
In addition the Eastern Cape’s oceans economy has been identified as a key growth sector, with government continuing to pursue partnerships that can unlock economic potential along the province’s extensive coastline.
The Greece trade mission forms part of ongoing efforts to position the Eastern Cape as a competitive player in the global maritime and logistics landscape while building international partnerships that support inclusive economic growth.
