MBIZANA- The Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality (WMMLM) turned the spotlight on academic excellence during the 2026 Mayoral Schools Achievement Awards held at the Mbizana Civic Centre on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
The ceremony attended by approximately 100 guests, learners and educators from across Mbizana were honoured for their outstanding performance in the 2025 academic year.

The event celebrated top matric achievers, high-performing schools and dedicated teachers from Alfred Nzo East reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to educational excellence.
Top learners were rewarded with tablets and certificates, practical tools to support them in furthering their studies.
Furthermore the awards not only recognised hard work and determination but also served as motivation for the new Class of 2026.

In an official statement issued by the municipality emphasised that, “As the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, we believe education is the foundation of sustainable development. Through the Mayoral Schools Achievement Awards, we are making education fashionable by recognising and rewarding excellence. We want every learner in Mbizana to know that their hard work matters and their success is our pride.”
In addition municipal leaders emphasised that the initiative forms part of a broader vision to empower young people and build a future led by skilled, educated citizens.

As the ceremony concluded, learners left inspired and ready to build on their achievements and pursue even greater success in 2026.
The event once again demonstrated that in Mbizana, academic excellence is not only encouraged but celebrated.
