MTHATHA- The High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division seating in Mthatha sentenced Noncedo Mqokro(39) to 15 years imprisonment for murdering her boyfriend and aunt on 23 June 2025. Mqokro was convicted of two counts of murder and housebreaking with intent to commit an offence.
The court heard that on 19 May 2024, Mqokro visited her boyfriend’s home in Khabakazi village where she found him having sex with her distant aunt.
In a fit of rage, she stabbed both victims multiple times with a dagger knife. Mqokro handed herself over to police and pleaded guilty, citing epilepsy, abuse by her ex-husband and the boyfriend’s physical abuse as mitigating factors.
Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Barry Madolo stated that, “The sentence should caution other people in abusive relationships to seek interventions within legal limits because once they commit a crime, they will serve time.”
Furthermore State Advocate Loyiso Methuso emphasized the loss of lives and guardians for the victims’ children, but acknowledged Mqokro’s remorse. “She needs professional intervention, as her youngest daughter also blames her for the death of her father,” Methuso added.
In addition Mqokro will serve 15 years concurrently for both murders, plus 8 years for housebreaking all to run simultaneously.
