KARIEGA- Four adult males made their first appearance in the Kariega magistrates’ court on 23rd June 2025, charged with two counts of murder and multiple rape charges.
The accused are;1. Akhululwe Phungulwa (28)2. Anele Ngalo (27)3. Zubenathi Dyakumeni (27)4. Siphosethu Gomomo (21)
According to reports the crimes occurred on 17-18 June 2025 in Kwanobuhle, Gqeberha where two teenage victims aged 17 and 19 were brutally murdered and raped.
In addition the victims were socializing with the accused at a private residence. The accused allegedly forced entry, interrupting a consensual encounter.
All four men allegedly raped both victims before murdering them. Three accused have provided confession statements, and all have abandoned their right to apply for bail.The case has been remanded to 30th July 2025, for further investigation.
Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali stated,”The NPA will ensure crucial evidence is collected for a formidable case to secure convictions and deserving sentences.”
Case to proceed with intense prosecution as justice is sought for victims and their families.
