EAST LONDON- The Carried & Covered Foundation a non-profit organization committed to empowering young students with educational support and career guidance, hosted its Second Annual Careers Advice Fair on 9th May 2025, at Ebenezer Majombozi High School, East London.
The event aimed to expose Grade 9 learners especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to a wide range of career and educational opportunities. The initiative was designed to equip students with the motivation and information they needed to make informed decisions about their future.
The Carried & Covered Foundation’s communication manager Sesona Mqheliswa said, “As the Carried & Covered Foundation which started in 2022 we identified a gap and recognized the need to host career expos, especially in rural areas. We began in our local area because we lack funding to reach deeper rural areas. Our career guidance approach involves inviting various institutions to visit specific schools and educate students about the different departments within those institutions.”
In addition, rural children often lack access to the internet and social media, so to bridge the information gap they took the initiative to follow up with these kids. They work closely with the Department of Education in this initiative.
“In our last initiative in 2022, we partnered with Fort Hare University, Walter Sisulu University and other colleges in East London to teach learners about the programs offered by these institutions,” Sesona added.
By partnering with committed partners, the foundation aimed to ignite ambition and provide tools that students could use to shape their futures. The foundation welcomed donations in a variety of ways such as giving career talks, setting up exhibitions, providing support or donating learning materials. Through this collaborative effort, Carried & Covered hoped to inspire interest in learning and career planning among the youth of the Eastern Cape and build a generation equipped to succeed.
