Tsholomnqa schools benefit from MBSA’s literacy program

TSHOLOMNQA- Mercedes-Benz South Africa(MBSA) Rally to Read initiative recently returned to Tsholomnqa supporting eight foundation phase schools with crucial educational resources on 12th April 2025 at Tsholomnqa outside East London.

This milestone marks the 26th year of MBSA’s partnership with The Read Education Trust aimed at reducing illiteracy and promoting a love for reading among young learners.

MBSA Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Andreas Brands emphasized the significance of reading in education and personal development, “Reading is fundamental to education and personal growth, I encourage you to embrace this opportunity take the books with you and return them so others can benefit from the knowledge and wisdom they contain.”

Gqala Primary School Principal Babalwa Kologwana expressed her gratitude to MBSA for their support, “Your commitment to promoting literacy is fully appreciated and your contribution has made a significant impact on our school. Department of Education, we are thankful for your presence and support in our educational journey.”

Regional Manager for KwaZulu-Natal schools at Rally to Read Thobile Dladla highlighted the initiative’s reach, stating, “We are currently at Gqala Primary School, doing our third year of support, by the end of the year we will be concluding our efforts here and moving on to new schools, selected based on district manager recommendations.”

In addition Former Deputy President of South Africa Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka waa also part of the campaign when Rally to read was distributing study material at Tsholomnqa, she emphasized the importance of reading in education, “These books will help you learn to read, do math and excel in other subjects. Reading is the backbone of education and we are proud to support your educational journey.”

The Rally to Read initiative has made a positive impact on the schools providing them with vital resources to support literacy development and promote a love for reading among young learners.

The partnership between MBSA and The Read Education Trust continues to make a difference in the lives of students, empowering them with the gift of education.
