GQEBERHA- The MEC for Eastern Cape Department of Education Fundile Gade has condemned the kidnapping of a 45 year old teacher in Algoa Park, at Happydale Special school. The incident happened in the early hours of reporting at work at around 08:05 on 24th March when at least 3 male suspects kidnapped a 45 year old female teacher just after her arrival at the school.
The suspects were using a white Toyota Corolla forcefully, took her into their vehicle and fled the scene, no ransom have been demanded yet.
Gade emphasized the fact that kidnapping of educators is the worst thing to ever happen in the sector, “Actions of this nature seek to undermine the hard-earned democratic right to life, in a free country”.
MEC Gade also urged the police and all law enforcement agencies to help bring back the educator to her family and in the sector. Furthermore, a multidisciplinary team of officials from the Department have been dispatched to assist the school to cope with this incident.
In addition, a case of kidnapping was opened by South African Police Service(SAPS) Algoa Park and being investigated by SAPS Provincial Organised Crime Prevention(POCI) Unit.
