EAST LONDON- A police captain Ntombekhaya Patricia August(49) has been granted R4000 bail by the East London Magistrate Court on 23rd January 2025, August is accused of stealing over R1 million from the Crime Intelligence Offices in East London and obstructing justice.
According to South African Police Service(SAPS) statement, August allegedly staged a robbery scene after a man gained access to her office and pulled out a firearm and demanded cash. August reportedly complied and the man made off with the money, the incident has raised eyebrows and August’s actions have come under scrutiny.
In addition provincial National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) spokesperson LuxoloTyali said, “The police captain, Ntombekhaya Patricia August who is charged in relation to the daring robbery at the East London Crime Intelligence Offices has been granted a R4000 bail by the East London Magistrate’s Court.”
Furthermore she is expected to appear at East London Magistrate court again on the 4th of March 2025 for further investigations.
Allegations against August have raised important questions about accountability and transparency within the police force and the resolution of this case will be closely watched by all.
