Eastern Cape grade 12 marking centres monitored for accuracy

MTHATHA- The Eastern Cape Department of Education(EC DoE) MEC, Fundile Gade, paid a visit to two Grade 12 marking centers in the OR Tambo Inland District on 11th December 2024 at Umthatha High School. The visit was part of the department’s efforts to monitor examinations and assessments.

EC DoE MEC Gade emphasized the importance of ensuring the smooth running of these centers stating, “We have decided to visit a few identified marking centers to make sure we don’t drop the ball because we are on the last slab on managing the whole academic year.”

Gade also highlighted the significance of balancing formal assessments with school-based assessments, noting that the 75% written via formal assessment should be equally valued as the 25% from school-based assessments.The MEC’s visit continued until the finalization of marking on 12 December 2024. This move demonstrated the department’s commitment to ensuring the integrity and fairness of the examination process.

Furthermore, ECDoE has shown its appreciation for its ground staff at the provincial education head office in Zwelitsha by providing groceries for its 76 cleaners.

This kind act was revealed by MEC Gade, who expressed his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the department’s employees. Gade also took the opportunity to praise the province’s teachers saying, “Our teachers managed to do great work.”

In addition, this acknowledgment highlights the department’s commitment to recognizing the efforts of all its employees from teachers to support staff.

With the marking process now complete, EC DoE is one step closer to releasing the Grade 12 results, bringing closure to the 2024 academic year.
