Local entrepreneur balances baking, branding and big dreams in Ntabankulu

NTABANKULU- In the heart of Ntabankulu a local entrepreneur is proving that passion, creativity and determination are key ingredients to building a successful business from humble beginnings. The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Uzandy We Restoration (PTY) Ltd, Zandile Tundzi is fast becoming a trailblazer in local entrepreneurship.

Her multifaceted business spans baking, garment printing, perfumery and poultry farming each a reflection of her dynamic spirit and relentless drive. Born and raised in Bonxa location in Ntabankulu, Tundzi first ventured into business in 2019 launching with branded hoodies and handmade perfumes. But it was in November 2023 when she stepped into the world of baking, that her entrepreneurial journey took a new and more personal turn.

“I love being in the kitchen,” she says. “One time, I baked scones for my family and posted them on Facebook. Soon after, someone placed an order for four 20-litre batches. I shared the screenshot and more orders started rolling in.”

What started as a simple act of sharing her baked goods online quickly snowballed into a growing business. Despite having no formal culinary training, Tundzi took it upon herself to learn the craft, spending hours researching recipes and honing her skills.

Furthermore, as demand grew she found herself drawn more deeply into the baking world and now considers it her primary focus. “Among all my ventures, baking is what I love the most. That’s where my heart is and that’s what I’m growing now,” she explains.

One of the keys to her success, Tundzi believes in innovative marketing and eye-catching packaging, which help her products stand out in a competitive local market. In addition like many small business owners, she’s had to navigate challenges, especially load shedding, which once threatened her ability to fulfill orders.

Ever resourceful, she invested in a gas stove, ensuring she could keep baking even when the power was out.In addition even with a full plate, Tundzi manages to juggle her business with online classes, often baking and fulfilling orders during lectures.

“It’s not a challenge sometimes I fulfill orders during classes and it works perfectly,” she said.

Tundzi’s journey is a powerful testament to the resilience, innovation and determination of young entrepreneurs in the Eastern Cape.

From her kitchen in Bonxa to homes and events across the province, her story continues to inspire others to turn their passion into purpose.
