South African motorists will be paying more for fuel from Wednesday, 02 July 2025 following the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s announcement of July price adjustments.
According to department spokesperson Robert Maake, the increases are mainly due to higher Brent crude oil prices and rising international petroleum costs. “
Although the rand strengthened slightly against the US dollar — from R18.11 to R17.84 — it wasn’t enough to offset the global impact.Petrol 93 will rise by 55 cents per litre, while petrol 95 goes up by 52 cents,” Maake added.
Diesel users face an even steeper hike, with increases of 82 and 84 cents per litre, depending on the grade. Illuminating paraffin rises by 67 cents per litre wholesale and 89 cents at retail.
Furthermore LPGas will drop by 57 cents per kilogram in most areas, but in the Western Cape, it will increase by R1.90 per kilogram.
The slate levy remains unchanged at zero cents per litre. These changes are expected to hit households and transport operators hard, adding pressure to the cost of living in the coming weeks.
