MTHATHA- The United Democratic Movement(UDM) in the Eastern Cape has opened a case against King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality(KSD) Executive Mayor Cllr. Nyaniso Nelani and his two Mayoral Committee Members(MMCs), Nombulelo Sibeko and Ziyanda Nokayi.
They are alleged to have misused municipal funds, spending around R180,000 on attending an African National Congress(ANC) event in Durban in February 2025.
Furthermore, the event was allegedly misrepresented as a government-backed ‘back to school’program hosted by Deputy Minister Nokuzola Capa. A letter allegedly from Deputy Minister Nokuzola Capa’s office was allegedly used to justify the expenditure.
These allegations raise concerns about governance and accountability within the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality.
Provincial Secretary of the UDM Bulelani Bobotyane said, “UDM councillors in KSD have opened a case (CAS 81/4/2025) against the Executive Mayor due to the alleged misuse of municipal funds allocated for a back-to-school program in Mthatha police station.
In addition the Executive Mayor allegedly took the money and arranged an ANC bash instead. As you know the UDM is against corruption which is why we took all necessary steps leading to the opening of this case,” Bobotyane added.
The outcome of this case will likely have implications for the municipality’s leadership and its commitment to serving the community.
Eastern Cape Daily News tried to contact KSD Municipality however at the time of the publication no response was recieved.
