Berlin November-SA Gallops into the Spotlight

NTABOZUKO- The Eastern Cape’s premier equestrian event, Berlin November-SA took place on a crisp summer day showcasing the thrill of horse racing, high fashion and music. This year’s event, held on 30th November 2024 in Ntabozuko(formerly known as Berlin) was attended by dignitaries, socialites and horse racing enthusiasts all united by their passion for the sport.

Deputy president Paul Matshatile, Premier of the Eastern Cape Oscar Mabuyane, Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development Nonkqubela Pieters and some provincial recognised business seniors were also amongst the attendees.

The highlight of the event was of course the horse racing, top jockeys and their majestic steeds competed in several exhilarating races, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats. The thunder of hooves, the roar of the crowd and the skillful riding on display made for an unforgettable experience. It was a dazzling blend of equestrian excellence and high fashion, attended by fashionistas and sports enthusiasts.

Liyema Meva from Sikhobeni just outside East London emerged victorious in the Berlin November Horserace Wafa Wafa winner category with his horse, Weekend Special. Overjoyed by his triumph, Meva exclaimed, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won the R100,000 prize, especially since this is my first time participating in the Berlin November Horserace.”

Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Vuyani Dayimani has expressed his organization’s unwavering support for events like Berlin November, citing the significant economic benefits they bring to the province. “We support events like Berlin November because tourism provides a substantial boost to our provincial economy, many visitors come to our province booking our bed-and-breakfast establishments and hotels and staying for up to a week until the event concludes. We will continue to support this event which has proven to be a valuable contributor to our local economy,” Dayimani said.

In addition, Founder of KGE Traders Siyaphumelela Phumeza Matoti expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the Berlin November event, marking the company’s first appearance at the prestigious gathering. “I’m thrilled to be here with our food stall, accompanied by my team. It’s our first time attending this major event and we’re overwhelmed by the support from the public, who are showing their appreciation by purchasing our food,” Matoti said.

Provincial spokesperson for Passenger Railway Agency of South Africa(PRASA) Mimi Katsio said, “The reason we wanted this partnership with Berlin November is because we wanted to show the role that PRASA plays in communities by transporting people to the Berlin November.”

As the sun came out on the day two consistent two years of rain during Berlin November-SA, unfortunately Founder of the event Luthando Bars was just no where to be found as he styled himself with black bow-tie and purple blazer on the day.

The event showcased the perfect harmony between fashion and horse racing, creating an atmosphere of pure exhilaration and joy.
