KLIPPLAAT- The Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina, officially handed over a newly constructed Water Treatment Works in Klipplaat to Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr.Willem Safers on the 23rd November 2024 at Klippaat community hall.
This R67 million initiative is part of the Ikwezi Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme, marks an important milestone in providing reliable drinking water to the area’s 2,215 residents. The upgraded facility, capable of treating 1.2 million litres of water per day replaces an inadequate plant that produced only 0.3 megalitres. It features a new storage reservoir and pump stations, alongside rehabilitated boreholes, ensuring a sustainable water supply for Klipplaat and nearby Jansenville.
During the community event, Minister Majodina emphasized the importance of maintaining the new infrastructure, urging residents to report leaks and protect the plant from vandalism.“This project not only enhances water quality but also sets the stage for economic growth, attracting potential investors with a reliable water supply,” she stated.
The community voiced their concerns about leaking water meters and low pressure, with the municipality committing to address these issues.
Residents expressed immense gratitude for the project, which has alleviated their long-standing water challenges.
The vision of a bright, water-secure future in Klipplaat is now closer than ever.
