GQEBERHA-A shocking scandal has rocked the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality Ward 5 council office.
An assistant was arrested on 5th November 2024 for allegedly selling jobs for R2000 each, the accused confessed to the misconduct on 4th November 2024.
Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and Democratic Alliance(DA) Councillor Terri Stander took swift action suspending the assistant pending a disciplinary hearing and reporting the incident to the police. However events took a dramatic turn when Councillor Stander was informed that the assistant had allegedly been kidnapped by individuals upset over the false job promises.
Furthermore, Stander promptly reported the kidnapping and fraudulent activities to Mount Road Police Station, leading to Hawks’ involvement. Fortunately, the assistant was safely returned and arrested on 5th November 2024.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson of the DA and Member of the Provincial Legislature(MPL) Yusuf Cassim said, “The Hawks have opened a docket based on Stander’s report. The DA denies allegations of Stander’s involvement, citing lack of evidence.
Stander’s prompt action demonstrates her commitment to accountability.”The DA demands a swift investigation and accountability for those found guilty, commending Stander for her transparency and prompt response.
