Tinashe Pro turns humble beginnings into Buffalo City’s top dreadlock brand

EAST LONDON- From the bustling streets of Johannesburg to the calm of East London, Zimbabwean-born Tinashe Pro has built one of Buffalo City’s most respected natural hair brands-Natural Black Dreadlock Doctors.

Founded three years ago, the salon is more than a business it’s; a celebration of natural beauty and self-empowerment. Pro, who now resides in Nahoon, East London says his journey began with a simple realization. “Growing up, I saw Black women trying to look like people in magazines. They used products that didn’t celebrate who they really were. That’s where my passion for natural beauty started,” he said.

Originally from Harare, Pro studied Beauty Therapy at Prince Edward High School. He moved to South Africa and started styling dreadlocks on the streets of Johannesburg, later working in salons to gain experience. Eventually, he decided to go out on his own, opening Natural Black Dreadlock Doctors. But the road to success came with its share of challenges.

“Two years back, I had to get my papers sorted and officially move to East London. It wasn’t easy, but I believed everything would fall into place,” he shared. In the early days, attracting clients was tough. But guided by faith, Pro trusted the journey.

“I thank the Creator for every client who walks through my door,” he added. Looking ahead, Pro plans to expand the business into other provinces and eventually take the brand international. He also aims to launch a natural cosmetics line that aligns with his brand’s values.

“In five to ten years, I see Natural Black Dreadlock Doctors as a franchise,” he said.

For those entering the dreadlock industry, Pro stresses patience, strong communication, and trust in God.

“Pay attention to technique. Teach clients how to care for their hair. That’s how you build something lasting,” he advised.
