Sterkspruit welcomes new fire station, promising a safer summer ahead

STERKSPRUIT- The Joe Gqabi District Municipality(JGDM) has taken a significant step towards enhancing emergency response and fire management in the Senqu Local Municipality with the launch of the Sterkspruit Fire Station’s pilot phase on the 10th October 2025.

The nine-month pilot phase will assess operational effectiveness, refine response protocols and identify resource requirements.

JGDM Executive Mayor Cllr Nomvuyo Mposelwa welcomed the initiative stating, “It’s a move towards safeguarding lives and property in Sterkspruit and surrounding villages”.

Running within existing resources, the initiative will be overseen by the District Disaster Management Unit. Outcomes will be reviewed after nine months to inform future decisions on the fire station’s permanent establishment and operation.

Mayor Mposelwa further explained that as a municipality they are committed to providing essential services that protect communities. “The Sterkspruit Fire Station pilot is an investment in preparedness and resilience for the people of Joe Gqabi.”
