Triple arrest following a double murder case

MTHATHA- Three man were arrested on 18th December 2024 in connection with the murders of two brothers found dead in their Mpunzana home, outside Mthatha, on the evening of 15 December 2024.

Provincial South African Police Service(SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa confirmed the arrest, praising the swift response of the police. “Swift response by the police in following up on the information they received led to the arrest of the three wanted suspects,” Mawisa said.

Mawisa explained that the operation began when police received information which led them to the Plaza taxi rank in Mthatha, where they arrested two suspects.

“The operation continued and led the team to the Zithulele Administrative area in Mqanduli, where the main suspect was allegedly hiding,” Mawisa added.

Furthermore, the third suspect was arrested at Kwaaiman junction while driving a white Ford Ranger single cab. Mawisa noted that the vehicle was checked and was not reported stolen.

“Upon searching him, they recovered an unlicensed firearm with an erased serial number and ammunition, a bank card that belonged to one of the deceased and an undisclosed amount of cash,” Mawisa emphasized.

Furthermore three suspects, aged between 20 and 30 face charges that include double murder, possession of stolen property, unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They appeared in the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on 20 December 2024.
