EAST LONDON- In the heart of Scenery Park, in East London a passionate football coach is fighting to keep the dreams of young athletes alive. Anathi Phantsi, a former player turned coach for Millan Football Club, is dedicating his time and energy to mentoring the club’s under-11 and under-17 teams.
With limited resources but endless determination, Phantsi is using football as a powerful tool to uplift the youth of his community and steer them away from negative influences.

“I was once one of these kids,” Phantsi said, reflecting on his journey with the club that was founded in 2009. “We would appreciate any help we could get. When it’s time for the team to play outside East London, we struggle because we don’t have funds. We can’t stop these young, talented players from playing if we do, they will end up doing bad things in the area.”
Despite financial challenges, the team’s hard work and talent are paying off.
Furthermore, Millan FC has been invited to send players for trials at a prestigious school of excellence in Johannesburg on 06 November 2025.

The opportunity is a significant step toward helping these young stars showcase their skills on a national platform and possibly change the course of their lives.

Now, Phantsi is calling on businesses, the community and local government to rally behind the team.
Phantsi added that, “Even small contributions can make a huge difference. These boys deserve the chance to chase their dreams.”
