KWABHACA- The 13th Annual Umzimvubu Agricultural Show concluded on 09 April at KwaBhaca Auction Site, with organisers highlighting strong participation from farmers and small businesses despite biosecurity restrictions that limited livestock exhibitions.

Close to 50 exhibitors took part in the two-day event, showcasing agricultural produce, agro-processing innovations and products from small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).

The show remains a key platform for market access, stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange within the local agricultural sector.

Inga Nodali said the show forms part of the municipality’s ongoing strategy to support both emerging and established farmers. The Mayor said the initiative enables producers to showcase goods, connect with buyers and strengthen their position within the agricultural value chain.

The municipality continues to implement support programmes focused on farmer training, production efficiency and improved market access, aimed at enhancing food security and local economic growth. No livestock was exhibited at this year’s event due to the ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak.

The municipality said the decision was taken in compliance with national biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the disease and protect the agricultural sector.

Despite the restriction, attendance remained steady over the two days, with organisers reporting sustained interest from stakeholders and the broader community.

Among the initiatives highlighted was the Wool Value Addition Programme, through which farmers have been supported with modern shearing equipment to improve productivity.

Furthmore the event was supported by the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA) and the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture.
