ADM achieves qualified audit opinion in final council meeting

BUTTERWORTH- Amathole District Municipality(ADM) held its final council meeting for the year 2024 at the Zovuyo guest-house in Butterworth on 6th December 2024. A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement that the municipality has made significant strides in improving its audit opinion.

After six years of receiving disclaimer and adverse opinions, the district municipality has successfully transitioned to a qualified audit opinion. This achievement marks a crucial step in the right direction, demonstrating the municipality’s commitment to enhancing its financial management and governance practices.

ADM Executive Mayor Cllr. Anele Ntsangani said, “The municipality commits to work towards a clean audit for the coming financial year, we have appointed a water coordinator for each local municipality, who will report to us on any water and sanitation issues, enabling us to respond promptly.

Additionally, we will have a rapid response team in place for this December period.”

ADM Council Speaker Cllr. Onke Mgunculu stated, “As we are currently in the initiation season for boys, we have established initiation forums in all active initiation schools. Our team visits these schools daily, providing water to prevent dehydration-related deaths among the initiates. We are collaborating closely with the Department of Health and the South African Police Service(SAPS) to ensure a seamless and safe initiation process,” Cllr Mgunculu emphasized.

The municipality has committed to working towards a clean audit for the upcoming financial year and has implemented measures to address water and sanitation issues, as well as ensure a safe and seamless initiation process for boys in the district.
