Financial strain hits department of public works and infrastructure

BHISHO- The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has announced a temporary halt in rental, utility charges and other payments to service providers from November 2024 to March 2025 on the 25 November 2024. Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control, the department will only be able to resume processing payments in April 2025.

Despite this setback, the department is calling upon all landlords to collaborate and make necessary financial arrangements to ensure seamless services during this period. They express gratitude for the understanding and patience shown during this challenging time.

Eastern Cape Democratic Alliance(DA) Shadow MEC for department of public work and infrastructure Dr Malcom Figg said, “Clearly there is a disinfunction in the department, a lack leadership hence we have a situation like this.”

Acknowledging the potential impact on operations, the department extends a sincere apology for any inconvenience caused and urges landlords not to exercise contractual remedies. Instead, they humbly request cooperation and understanding as they navigate through this financial challenge. In the spirit of unity and cooperation, the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure seeks the support and understanding of all landlords involved.
